The history of our congregation begins in the early 1700’s. As more and more settlers moved into the area around our current location, they began meeting in homes. In 1760, the first church building was built known as “Bachman Mennonite Meeting House”. In the late 1800’s our current building was erected and named “Masonville Mennonite Church”.  There was a significant addition (including indoor toilets!) constructed in the 1950s, and various smaller improvements to keep the building updated right up to the present time. The name of the congregation was officially changed in 2010 to “Living Light Mennonite Church.”

Over the years the congregation has mainly served the descendants of many of those early settlers, the majority of whom were Swiss-Germans of the Anabaptist tradition, while also welcoming people from all backgrounds who wished to worship and follow Jesus together. The congregation has been very active in overseas mission work primarily through Eastern Mennonite MIssions, as well as locally, serving in ministry to rural as well as urban communities nearby.

The Anabaptist/Mennonite community has long held values of community, simple living and peace as central to faithful expression of the gospel of Jesus. The expression of those values has changed over the years as each generation seeks to be faithful to the call of Jesus in their own time and place. We trust that the grace of God will continue to work through His church here in Masonville for His glory and the blessing of the world for many more years to come.
